# Cutting off a Woven Piece without having to Tie On again

Often when designing a new project, or testing a yarn that's new to you for shrinkage, you may want to weave the piece, cut it off the loom and wet finish to determine if any adjustments to are desired for the beat or length woven before completing the weaving.

To avoid having to tie-on and spread the warp again, weave in a dowel before cutting.

I like to weave about 1 1/2" , usually in a yarn of the same size, but different color, that I have been using as weft before weaving the tie-up stick or dowel, then continue weaving for another 1 1/2" .

Then cut right after the finish of the piece you want to wet finish and test, leaving the dowel safely woven between the 1 1/2" on each side.

Finally, simply last the dowel to the apron bar.

As shown in this picture, I have woven in an extra Louet tie-up stick, that will then be lashed onto the tie-up stick that is attached to the loom.
